Welcome to Historic Hendersonville & Flat Rock, NC

The Historic Hendersonville & Flat Rock area has welcomed guests for well over a century as a
popular vacation destination. A city of rich history & culture, Southern hospitality and charm, the “City of Four Seasons” is located 22 miles south of Asheville, NC on a plateau with an altitude of 2200 feet above sea level. The scenic Blue Ridge Mountains provides a range of activities for
people of all ages to discover, including the well-known Blue Ridge Parkway.

Historic Hendersonville and the Village of Flat Rock is nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area in Western North Carolina. The Blue Ridge National Heritage Area was designated by Congress and the President in 2003, in recognition of the magnitude and abundance of historical, cultural, and natural heritage assets in Western North Carolina and their significance to the history of our nation. The distinction will help to draw national—and worldwide—attention to our region’s rich heritage and encourage the preservation and celebration of our heritage resources.

The Historic Hendersonville & Flat Rock area is ideally located for exploring towns and
surrounding country with varied attractions, festivals, cultural & recreational activities, historical sites, a historic downtown district with unique shops, excellent restaurants, and an abundance of quality antique stores. Henderson County offers many diverse attractions, all located within a few blocks, to a few miles of downtown: these include the Henderson County Farmers Curb Market, Thomas Wolfe’s Angel, Mineral & Lapidary Museum of Henderson County, The Arts Center, Jump Off Rock scenic overlook, Historic Johnson Farm, Holmes Educational State Forest, DuPont State Forest, the Western North Carolina Air Museum and the Historic Hendersonville Depot. The Historic Village of Flat Rock is home to these widely recognized attractions: the Carl Sandburg Home, National Historic Site; the Flat Rock Playhouse, State Theatre of North Carolina and St. John in the Wilderness Church.
